Icon ideation
Nine candidate marks for the favicon / app icon,
designed in the site's own language — no letters, since the site is
nameless and the URL is the only signature. Each shown at favicon
scale first; a mark that fails at 16px fails. The model team's
concept round lands at /team/runs.
1 · the dot
The mark the public chrome already uses: a bare filled circle. The record glyph, the nameless brand. Reads at any size because it is barely a mark at all — which is the concept.
2 · the eclipse
A disk mostly occluded by white — the record with something unaccounted for crossing it. The negative space does the work; survives 16px as a crescent.
3 · the constellation
Four weighted nodes, three edges — the corpus's own graph reduced to its minimum. Strong at app-icon sizes; smears at favicon scale.
4 · the membrane
Half a circle solid, half dashed — the register membrane itself: record and window as one object with an honest boundary.
5 · the open case
A core with two rings fading outward — corpus-status-as-light, the open cases that pulse in the app. Signals 'live question' without a question mark.
6 · the token
The Operator's Token face: rim, hub, seed-derived radial ticks. Ties the digital mark to the physical artifact; ticks could derive from a date seed like the daily walk.
7 · the redaction
Three redaction bars, one interrupted by a dot — the document that doesn't quite conceal the thing. The most narrative mark of the set.
8 · the scope
A radar scope with one sweep line and one off-axis blip. The radar-visual cases as geometry; instantly legible to the field's literate audience.
9 · the transmedium
An oblong above two wave lines — the water cases, the Tic-Tac over the disturbance. The most pictorial; best at large sizes.
10 · the orbit (editor's concept)
From the team's round: a solid record dot with an off-center broken dashed ring — record and window in one mark, the break meaning phenomenologically open. The synthesis candidate: three ideas in two shapes.
Working read: the dot is the safest (it already IS
the brand mark in the public chrome); the eclipse
and the open case carry the most meaning at 16px;
the token ties the digital mark to the physical
artifact. The constellation and transmedium marks read beautifully
at 64px+ but smear at favicon scale — app-icon candidates, not
favicon candidates. Flag a favorite from the phone — ☆ an entry and
