07 statechart continuity audit

Statechart Continuity Audit (Wave 2)

Method: Each character is modeled as a Harel statechart (states / transitions / events with dates and guards). Each chart is checked for three properties — deterministic, complete, reachable — and a CONTRADICTIONS FOUND section quotes specific file:line violations. Timelines are then merged across charts; cycle math is verified against canon §3 (7-year standard, 11/12-year slow, 4-year accelerated). The work is organized as an SPPV poset: explicit precondition / postcondition / acceptance per task. R5’s prior findings are carried forward only where current artifacts confirm them; resolved items are noted as such.

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
L-1 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:140 (Entry V) Lorenzo, writing Oct 10 2019, refers to “the dying math teacher whose chaplaincy referral was discussed at convocation last winter.” But per book/chapters/14-convocation.md § (convocation 12 Jun 2026, §3.7) “the chaplaincy referral received 14 Jan 2026.” Eric Hauschild dies December 2025 (codex Ch 15 §VI; chapter 13). Lorenzo died Oct 19 2019; he cannot reference a referral six years in his future. Change entry V’s “the dying math teacher whose chaplaincy referral was discussed at convocation last winter” to “the boy who was, by my reading, dying somewhere in Carolina this very week” (or strike the convocation reference entirely; the cycle-math match alone carries the recognition).
L-2 (MINOR) documents/01-maintenance-procedure-summary.html:211 (Rev C approver “L. ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆”) vs documents/05-1989-dictabelt-transcript.html:174,188 (H-1 = “L. ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆”, 8 chars) Width drift R5 flagged: 8-char redaction pre-2019, 10-char in 2019 reissue. Now reconciled in book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:242 (Helen’s postscript explicitly addresses it: “the apparatus’s later widening of the redaction to ten was a tell — one more square for one more thing they don’t want you counting”). R5 #1 resolved. Lock the rationale in the world bible.
L-3 (MINOR) documents/03-satiation-calendar.html:181 shows “L. ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆ attending in person” at LANTERN-9 (Kyoto, March, FY ▆▆▆▆); FY is redacted R5 flagged whether L. is in active service post-Oct 2019. The Tonopah notebook now establishes (entry VIII, book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:226–230) that L. died Oct 17–19 2019. If the satiation calendar’s FY is FY26 or later, L. cannot personally attend. Either lock the FY as ≤2019, or re-attribute the LANTERN-9 attendance to L.’s successor at DSO-4. The world bible should state “L. attended LANTERN-9 in March of an FY ≤ FY19; later attendances under that handler-slot are the successor.”
L-4 (MINOR) documents/02-pact-renewal-memo.html:135 (“CC: L. ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆ (DSO-4)”), date redacted but PCT-0173 context implies post-2019 Same as L-3. Same proposed fix: redate or re-attribute.

2.2 John Roberts

States
  S0 child / pre-substrate subject (born ~1971; cycles 1986, 1993, 2000 per book ch 16, V)
  S1 rememberer-subject (1986–2001) — four substrate cycles by Lorenzo's note
S2 Lorenzo recruits him at Reston hotel café (2001)
S3 surface-contact handler, LSG Suite 312 (2001–present); 25 years on the desk per story 02
S4 Pact Standing Committee member (≥2018?–present)
  S5 considering-retirement (June 12 2026 onward, per Karen's margin)

Transitions
  T1 1986 first cycle (subject) S0 → S1
  T2 2001 Lorenzo's recruitment (Reston coffee) S1 → S2 (book ch 16, IV final paragraph)
  T3 2001 takes LSG line S2 → S3
  T4 2018–2026 sits Standing Committee S3 → S4

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
R-1 (CRITICAL — but RESOLVED) book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:150 (“There is a man. His name is Roberts. J. Roberts… The date was October of 1991”) vs book/chapters/05-handlers-tuesday.md:16 (“I noticed [the owl] within my first week on the desk, in 2001”) R5’s “1991 problem” — Eric saw Roberts in 1991, but Roberts started LSG 2001. Now resolved by book ch 16 entry IV: “In 2001 a man named John Roberts came to me through the rememberer pool. He had been a subject since 1986.” R5 #3 resolved. But: chapter 2 (“Clear Air”) still has Eric saying “the date was October of 1991” — Roberts was a subject in 1991, not a handler attending Eric. Eric’s own substrate-leak recognized “not as one of them but as one of us” — consistent now. The chapter copy is internally fine; the world bible should explicitly canonize Roberts-born-~1971, recruited 2001, subject 1986–2001.
R-2 (MINOR) book/chapters/05-handlers-tuesday.md:32 (“I think of L. ▆▆▆▆▆▆▆▆, who taught me the same lesson in 2003 in almost the same words”) vs book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md IV final paragraph (“He came in in 2001”) Story 02 puts the L.→Roberts mentoring at 2003. Notebook puts Roberts’s intake in 2001, two years before. Both can be reconciled (L. trained Roberts on Pruitt-type lessons in 2003 having recruited him in 2001), but the corpus does not explicitly link them. Add a single line in any future Roberts pass noting that L. recruited him in 2001 and mentored him in 2003 (these are two events; the 2003 lesson is the seasoned-mentor lesson).

2.3 Pop / Ray Marquez

States
  S0 surface-handler, Holloman/Alamogordo, "Castaneda-line" (≤1996?) — born ~1928 per Marisol-65 chapter math
S1 active sub-handler with case files in stove drawer (1996–2003)
  S2 Marisol's grandfather hosting Marisol-the-granddaughter (July 2003, ch 01)
  S3 late-career handler (2003–2007)
S4 in memory care, Mesilla Vista (2007–Dec 2012)
S5 dead (Dec 2012) — confirmed in book ch 17

Transitions
  T1 Jul 14 1998 negotiates Marisol's slow cohort S1 → S1 (key event) (letters/03 + book ch 16 V + book ch 17)
  T2 July 2003 hosts Marisol (age 11) S1 → S2
  T3 2003 night-truck conversation re: M.'s cohort S2 → S2 (key event) (book ch 17 reveals the dialogue)
  T4 2007 enters memory care S3 → S4 (book ch 17: "We bought it in 2007")
  T5 Dec 2012 dies S4 → S5 (book ch 17: "He passed in 2012")

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
P-1 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/01-summer-at-pops.md:8 (“a few days after noon”… July, granddaughter age 11; Lucha “eleven years ago, the year Marisol was born”) establishes Pop hosting Marisol-age-11 in summer of her 11th year vs letters/03-pops-notebook-entry-1998.html:254 (notebook entry dated “Tuesday, 14 July 1998”) with negotiation specifying “beginning age 11 — which is to say beginning this summer” If Marisol is 11 in July 1998 per the notebook, she was born 1986–87. But chapter 03 (“Marisol at Eighteen”) and chapter 07 (“Marisol at Thirty-Two”) date her trips: 18 in summer (year unspecified, but the Razr and iPod nano + “Hey Ya” + “Mr. Brightside” pin it to summer 2005); 32 in Oct 2019; 39 in 2026 per Roberts margin; 65 in 2052 per chapter 17. Born 1987 ✓ for chapters 03/07/17. Chapter 01 says “Lucha eleven years ago, the year Marisol was born” — if Marisol is 11 in summer 2003 (matching chs 03/07), Lucha was born 1992. But the notebook (1998) puts the negotiation when she is 11 — contradicting chapter 01’s “summer of her 11th year = 2003.” The notebook entry is the document being canonized; chapter 01 places Marisol’s age-11 visit in 2003. Resolution: the notebook’s “beginning age 11 — which is to say beginning this summer” should be re-dated to summer 2003 (with the notebook still in Vol XVII but a later entry; or Vol XVII is 2001–2003 not “1996–1998”). The Pop-negotiation entry should be dated 14 July 2003, not 1998. The cumbia night happens after the negotiation in chapter 01; book ch 17 confirms: “The cumbia was a Thursday in July, twenty-three years ago” (Roberts margin, June 2026 → 23 years back = July 2003). Lock the date as July 2003.
P-2 (MINOR) letters/03-pops-notebook-entry-1998.html:267 (“the November entry on the Hauschild boy was a harder evening than this one… his people came in and out of El Paso… the desk passed him to me because no one in Carolina had clearance”) vs book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:138 Lorenzo Entry V on Subject 6018 (“Transferred to my desk in the summer of 1981… He was nine. I attended the procedure personally”) Pop’s 1998 notebook says he (R.M.) attended the Hauschild boy. Lorenzo’s notebook says he (Lorenzo) attended Subject 6018 in El Paso 1981. If both are Eric, two different handlers each claim attendance. Re-attribute the Pop-notebook line: “the November entry on the boy whose case I oversaw the family’s intake on…” — i.e., Pop did the family-side intake; Lorenzo did the procedure. Or strike from Pop’s notebook entry.
P-3 (MINOR) book/chapters/01-summer-at-pops.md:32 (“HOLLOMAN GOLF CLASSIC 1998”) vs book/chapters/07-marisol-at-thirty-two.md:40 (“a Lotaburger cap, which Pop, sitting in his chair in October 2019, did not respond to at all when she said the word”) Pop wears Holloman cap in 2003 (matches the Alamogordo geography); the 1998 dating on the cap is fine. But chapter 01 also says Pop’s cap was the Lotaburger one at the airport pickup. Two different caps. No fix needed — Pop owns multiple caps; chapter 17 confirms via “Holloman cap.” But the world bible should record both: BLAKE’S LOTABURGER (Airport), HOLLOMAN GOLF CLASSIC 1998 (kitchen).

2.4 Marisol Marquez (single character, prev. “MRI tech” + “Pop’s granddaughter”)

R5 Minor #10 update. Book chapter 17 (“Marisol at Sixty-Five”) collapses the two Marisols: the granddaughter at Pop’s in 2003 is the same Marisol who is the partially-remembering subject (story 01 = chapter 09 “The Partially-Remembering”; both dated 2025). Confirmed by Roberts’ marginalia at book/chapters/14-convocation.md Karen-margin row 3: “Marisol. She is 39 next week. The technician on her file has worked her since ‘98 — Pop’s negotiation, the August he made the introduction at Holloman.”

States

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
M-1 (CRITICAL) artifacts/inbox/03-maintenance-schedule-update.md:51 (Subject 7142: “Cohort R-7, Sector NE, female, cohort age 41, maintenance interval 94 days, prior window count 19”) vs book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:136 Lorenzo Entry V: “Subject 7142, registry name Marisol Marquez. Placed in the slow cohort by Ray Marquez’s 1998 negotiation… She is now twenty-six” (Oct 2019, → born ~1993) Three irreconcilable Marisol-7142 facts: (a) Lorenzo says born ~1993; (b) inbox-03/-04 says cohort R-7, age 41 in May 2026 (born ~1985), 94-day interval; (c) Roberts margin says she is 39 in June 2026 (born ~1987), tech-file-since-1998; (d) chapter 17 puts her at 65 in 2052 (born 1987). The 94-day-interval R-7 inbox subject cannot be the slow-cohort Marisol Lorenzo describes. They are different subjects, OR the inbox records use “cohort R-7” loosely. Two-step fix. First: lock Marisol’s birth year as 1987 (consistent with chs 01/03/07/17 and Roberts margin). Second: separate the cohort designations. The “R-7” code in inbox-03 (94-day interval) is a different cohort than the slow-cohort Marisol; Lorenzo’s notebook calls Marisol “Subject 7142” but the inbox refers to a different ████-7142. Resolve by giving the inbox subject a different registry number (e.g., ████-7144) and explicitly stating that Marisol’s slow-cohort designation is 7142 with an 11-year interval (chapter 09 implicit: “the next scheduled in the autumn of the year she is now in,” with 2003 + 11 + 11 = 2025 ✓ or 2003 + 7 = 2010 + 7 = 2017 + 7 = 2024 ≈ 2025 ⚠). The convocation §3.4 line “Subject is a periodic intake of long standing (registry entry 1994; cohort R-7; substrate stability rated A-2 through cycle 0172)” also needs amendment if 7142 = Marisol: change “registry entry 1994” to “registry entry 1998” and “cohort R-7” to “slow cohort.” Currently the inbox uses “R-7” to mean accelerated; the convocation uses “R-7” to mean Marisol’s cohort. Disambiguate.
M-2 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/09-partial-remembering.md:46 (Marisol’s overlay binding: “the geometric placement of a maintenance implant via the right nostril… the laying down of a memory overlay intended to bind the eighty-three minutes to the image of an owl on a fencepost”) vs book/chapters/03-marisol-at-eighteen.md:117 (“Her right nostril itched, very faintly, for about a mile”) Two beats reference the same event (Blanding overlay, summer 2003 → “the fourth in her current series”). Story 01/ch 09 also says the implant was “seated at a slight angle since 2003” and that Marisol’s autumn calendar entry suggests the next cycle is “the autumn of the year she is now in.” With chapter 09 dating “May of her thirty-eighth year” (= May 2025 if born 1987) and “the autumn” = autumn 2025, the cycle interval looks like 2003 → 2010 → 2017 → … 2025 (every 7), not the slow-cohort 11-year. Pop’s negotiation per ch 17 explicit dialogue: “She will receive the maintenance four times in the standard scheduling, then her cohort will be retired by her late thirties.” Four cycles total. If first is 2003 (age 11=Pop’s negotiation actually placed her in the slow rotation but with the first cycle happening that summer), then 2003 → 2014 → 2025 → 2036 (every 11). Or 2003 → 2010 → 2017 → 2024 (every 7). The chapter 17 reveal says “she will receive the maintenance four times in the standard scheduling, then her cohort will be retired by her late thirties” — i.e., four standard cycles ending by her late thirties (age ~38–39 = 2025–2026). This implies 7-year intervals, four total = 2003, 2010, 2017, 2024 (or 2025). Pop traded “twelve fewer years of the surface and… thirty years of clear air” — the slow cohort is the post-retirement clear-air gift, not slower cycles within the active period.
M-3 (MINOR) book/chapters/09-partial-remembering.md:74 (“the small infarct on the left was located within two millimeters of an interface artifact that the maintenance crew had not been able to fully clear in 1997”) vs Marisol’s 2003 implant in the right ethmoid The MRI-tech Marisol’s diagnostic “knows” of an interface artifact from a 1997 procedure — but Marisol’s first cycle was 2003 (per ch 17 and Pop’s negotiation). Either Marisol’s pre-cycle file was opened in 1997 (selection phase pre-2003), or this is a different patient’s history that Marisol’s substrate is reading. Read carefully: the 1997 reference is about a different patient (the stroke patient she’s scanning) whose own pineal channel was last serviced 1997. The substrate is reading another patient’s history. This is consistent — but the world bible should clarify Marisol’s diagnostic-channel is reading patient-substrate files, not her own.

E-1 (CRITICAL) letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:357 (page 3, Nov 7 1993: “1965 — 1972 — 1979 — 1986 — 1993 (this past Sept., I think). The next will be 2000”) AND page 4 (Sept 22 2007: “The next one is, by my count, this autumn”) AND page 5 (May 14 2014: “The next one is in 2021”) vs book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:150 (Eric in clear-air dictation: “October of 1991. I had been gone, that night, from eleven-forty to two-fifteen”) Eric’s own cycle phase per the diary excludes 1991 entirely. The phase is 1958 + 7n: 58, 65, 72, 79, 86, 93, 00, 07, 14, 21. Roberts is “in the room” in October 1991 (Clear Air) — but 1991 is not Eric’s cycle year. Two reads: (a) the diary’s phase is wrong, and the actual phase is 1956+7n = 56/63/70/77/84/91/98/05/12/19 (which fits Eric’s “last service” 2019 as Clear Air says, AND fits 1991); (b) the Roberts-in-1991 encounter happened during a non-standard mid-cycle event. Lock the cycle phase as 1956 + 7n: 1956, 1963, 1970, 1977, 1984, 1991, 1998, 2005, 2012, 2019. This makes the 1991 Roberts encounter the fifth cycle (Eric age 45). The peach stand at “age 16 summer 1962” must move to summer 1963 (R5’s already-recommended fix); Eric born late 1946 / early 1947 keeps age 16 in 1963. Diary p3 “1965 — 1972 — 1979 — 1986 — 1993” then needs to be amended to “1963 — 1970 — 1977 — 1984 — 1991.” Diary p5’s “next is 2021” stays right as 2019 — but 2019 fits Clear Air’s “last service 2019.” So change diary p5 to “next is in 2019.”
E-2 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:108 (“which was 2019, which was the spring your mother got the second diagnosis”) AND book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:106 (“He had been a widower for nine years”) Marina’s mother got a second diagnosis spring 2019 → alive in spring 2019. Eric is widower “nine years” at Dec 2025 → wife died ~Dec 2016. So between spring 2019 (alive with diagnosis) and Dec 2016 (already dead)? Contradiction. Change “He had been a widower for nine years” to “He had been a widower for six years” (mother dies ~late 2019, post-second diagnosis). OR change “second diagnosis” to “first diagnosis” and have her die ~2016. The cleanest fix: change Clear Air line 106 from “nine years” to “six years.”
E-3 (CRITICAL) letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:257 (page 1, March 14 1979: “Helen thinks I’m tired”) AND letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:425 (page 4, Sept 22 2007: “Helen is two years gone”) Eric’s wife is named Helen in the diary (1979 + 2007). Marina’s deathbed dialogue refers to her mother as a “quiet woman who would have listened” but never names her. R5 missed this. Helen Carlyle (Wesleyan historian, Lorenzo’s notebook recipient) is a different person. Two Helens — name collision. Rename Eric’s wife to a different name (e.g., “Lillian” or “Joan”) to avoid collision with Helen Carlyle. Note: this also affects the 2014 wife-death date — diary p4 (Sept 2007) says “Helen is two years gone” → 2005; this conflicts with E-2’s six-year fix. Resolve by: (a) renaming Eric’s wife to Lillian in both diary pages and (b) setting Lillian’s death at 2019 (fitting the “spring of second diagnosis”). Update diary p4: replace “Helen is two years gone” with a sentence that doesn’t pin the date (e.g., “Lillian would have asked the right questions”).
E-4 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:138 (Lorenzo Entry V on Subject 6018: “He was nine”) vs Eric born 1946 → would be 35 in summer 1981, not 9 Lorenzo says the Hauschild boy was 9 at summer 1981 El Paso transfer. Eric was 35 then. They cannot be the same subject. Lorenzo’s entry was added by a writer who placed Eric at the wrong age. Change “He was nine” to “He was thirty-five” (or specifically, “He was in his thirty-fifth year, cycle five”). The cycle-5 read aligns with the corrected 1956+7n phase. Also amend “I never knew his name” — Eric’s name was certainly in the transfer file Lorenzo received. Alternatively, change Subject 6018 to not be Eric, and have Lorenzo only suspect it from the 2025 referral. The latter is more elegant: keep 6018 as “the boy” with no name; Lorenzo’s “the boy is, by my best reading, the dying math teacher” is then explicitly speculative.
E-5 (MINOR) letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:445 (page 5: “Marina turns 38 this year”) in May 2014 → Marina born 1976 book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:8 says Marina is 49 in December 2025 → born 1976 ✓. Consistent. No fix needed.
E-6 (MINOR) book/chapters/13-chaplains-visit.md:22 (“Eric Hauschild was seventy-eight”) vs cycle math implying born 1946–47, age in Dec 2025 = 78–79 Chaplain ch 13 says 78. R5 noted off-by-1. With 1946 birth and December 2025, age is 79; with late-1946 birth, age is 79 by then. Change “seventy-eight” to “seventy-nine” in chapter 13, OR amend Eric’s birth year to early 1947 (then he is 78 at hospice in early Dec 2025).

Pa-1 (MINOR) book/chapters/13-chaplains-visit.md:64 (“he was sixty-four”) in December 2025 → born 1961 vs codex/chapters/15-the-containment-of-revelation.md:114 (“He was processed once in 1968 — the first time he heard a sailor talk in clear air… He was withdrawn from the cycle in 1969”) — if born 1961, Pat is 7 at 1968 processing and 10 at Vasquez’s 1971 death. But ch 13 establishes Pat sat with Vasquez at age 29 (“twenty-nine and three years out of seminary”). Pat born 1942 (age 29 in 1971; age 83 in 2025 — but ch 13 says he is 64). One of: (a) change ch 13 age “sixty-four” to “eighty-three”; (b) re-date Vasquez’s death to 1996 not 1971. Cleanest: change “He was sixty-four” to “He was eighty-three” in book ch 13. Roberts margin in convocation says “Pat Donohoe — he was 71 in March” — but March 2026 minus 71 = born 1955 → age 16 at Vasquez 1971 → still inconsistent. Three dates need locking: Pat’s birth year. Recommended: born 1942 (age 29 in 1971, age 83 in Dec 2025; Roberts margin “71 in March” needs amending to “84 in March”).
Pa-2 (MINOR) codex/chapters/15-the-containment-of-revelation.md:114 (“He was processed once in 1968”) vs Lorenzo’s notebook (book ch 16 V): “Subject 4471, the chaplain himself. He was processed once, in 1968, the first time he heard a sailor talk in clear air, and the processing did not take” But Lorenzo’s chronology has Pat hearing a “sailor talk in clear air” first in 1971 (Vasquez), and then being processed. The codex says Pat was processed in 1968 before Vasquez. Inconsistency: which came first? Lock the timeline: Pat’s processing 1968 (failed); Vasquez 1971 (the leak Pat could not have been the “first time he heard a sailor talk in clear air” if he had not yet attended one in 1968 — unless the 1968 processing was triggered by an earlier sailor). Cleanest: change Lorenzo’s note from “the first time he heard a sailor talk in clear air” to “after he had heard a sailor talk in clear air some years before.” Or: change codex ch 15 to date Pat’s processing post-1971 (1972, 1979, etc.). I recommend the former — the codex’s order is wrong; the notebook is the older artifact.

Lock the canonical date as 26 Sept 61 briefing, 27 Sept 61 body recovery. But the addressee of L.’s 2019 postcards is Dr. Helen Carlyle, Wesleyan History Dept — described in book ch 16 (VI) as “the niece” (not the daughter): “Renzo, the niece is the one” and “Margaret is the executor of his estate.” R5 #7 already flagged the JD-to-historian pivot. Now resolved by ch 16: Margaret is Carlyle’s daughter (and estate executor); Helen Carlyle is Carlyle’s niece (the historian). Update the world bible: Helen Carlyle is Bill’s niece, not his daughter. The UVA Law 1L in chapter 11 refers to Margaret, the executor.

Bill dies April 19 2019, “ten days” before L.’s fragments start. R5 #8 flagged L.–Helen relationship as unexplained. Book ch 16 now provides the relationship: Bill is Helen’s uncle; L. has known Helen since 1991 (when she was 26 and asked Bill three questions). R5 #8 resolved. Lock in the world bible: Helen Carlyle, born ~1965 (age 26 in 1991), Bill’s niece, Wesleyan History faculty by 2019, addressee of L.’s 2019 postcards, redactor of the 1962 memo in 2021, releaser of the Tonopah notebook in June 2026 at age ~61.

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
O-1 (CRITICAL) book/chapters/15-technician.md:24 (“The substrate’s grandfather died in the surface year that the substrate would call 2019, in the season the substrate calls spring”) vs book/chapters/17-marisol-at-sixty-five.md:33 (“Ray. He went into memory care that year [2007]. He passed in 2012”) The Technician chapter says Marisol’s grandfather (Pop) died in spring 2019. Chapter 17 (the 2052-set epilogue) says Pop died in 2012. The Tonopah notebook (book ch 16 V) confirms 2012 too: “He was given the box on her twenty-first birthday, in the den of her grandfather’s house in Falls Church, two months before he died” — wait this is Maren’s grandfather, not Pop. But ch 17’s Marisol confirms Pop’s 2012 death. The Technician chapter is wrong. Change book/chapters/15-technician.md:24 from “the surface year that the substrate would call 2019, in the season the substrate calls spring” to “2012, in the season the substrate calls winter” (per ch 17: “He passed in 2012”). Spring 2019 is Bill Carlyle’s death; the Technician chapter has confused the two. Critical fix. (This is R5’s prior critical contradiction #1, previously flagged. Still present.)
O-2 (MINOR) book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:186–192 (Lorenzo recognizes the technician in 1970 = same individual at Pop’s 1998 negotiation) vs book/chapters/15-technician.md:18 (Veth-skenn’s predecessor Sshenn-vu attended Lorenzo at 1970; Sshenn-vu is “long-served, unbraiding”; Veth-skenn never claims to be at Pop’s porch) Two different operator-side individuals: Sshenn-vu (the 1970 attending; now unbraiding) and Veth-skenn (the 2026 attending). Lorenzo’s notebook says the 1970 technician and the 1998 Pop’s-porch visitor are the same individual. If both = Sshenn-vu, fine. But Veth-skenn says: “I knew her grandfather, in a manner of speaking. He was not on my file. He was on a file in another district, in a long-prior cycle, and there was a handler conversation, in the years when handler conversations across districts were freer, in which his attending technician spoke of him with the affection… I remember the conversation because the attending technician was Sshenn-vu.” Veth-skenn is not Pop’s attending; Sshenn-vu was. Pop’s notebook (1998) names “Castaneda from the Alamogordo desk” as the senior handler at the truck — not the operator/technician. The visitor at Pop’s porch in 1998 is the operator-class. Lorenzo recognizes the visitor at Pop’s porch (1998) as the same as the 1970 El Paso technician. If they are the same and = Sshenn-vu, then Sshenn-vu attended Marisol’s cohort negotiation in 1998 and Lorenzo’s 1970 procedure. Veth-skenn does Marisol’s current calibrations; Sshenn-vu did the 1998 negotiation with Pop. Lock the canonical identifications: Sshenn-vu = (a) Lorenzo’s 1970 attending; (b) Pop’s 1998 porch visitor who drew the glyphs; (c) now unbraiding. Veth-skenn = Marisol’s current technician since cycle 1 (which Pop’s negotiation in 1998 placed her into; the first procedure on her was at age 11 = 2003 if Marisol born 1987; the procedure-cycle-1-attending could plausibly be Sshenn-vu’s apprentice = Veth-skenn). Add a sentence to ch 15 making explicit that Veth-skenn took over Marisol’s file from Sshenn-vu at her first procedure (so Veth-skenn has been “on her file since the cycle she was eleven” but Sshenn-vu was at the 1998 negotiation).

# File:Line Issue Proposed fix
S-1 (CRITICAL — but RESOLVED) book/chapters/10-inheritance.md:36 (“Hollow World will exist by Friday”) vs documents/06-2024-email-thread-pratt-section14.html:244 (Greta, Oct 22 2024: “Hollow World launched on schedule, four videos in the can”) R5 #4: Hollow World launch contradiction (2024 vs 2026). Still unresolved in the corpus. Story 03 / book ch 10 has Hollow World will exist by Friday in April 2026; document 06 has it already launched in Oct 2024. Add to story 03/book ch 10: one phrase, after “branding Hollow World”: “(the 2024 cell got burned; we are restanding it under the same cutout).” Apply to book/chapters/10-inheritance.md:30.
S-2 (MINOR) book/chapters/10-inheritance.md:165 (“She had read the bulletin in April. She had read it twice”) = April 2026 notices match vs documents/06-2024-email-thread-pratt-section14.html:288 (Sandberg, Oct 23 2024: “The 1986 Bennewitz acoustic annex catalogues… 7.04 Hz… eleven on / forty-nine off… I have re-pulled both source documents”) Sandberg raised the match in Oct 2024 — and book ch 10 has her noticing it as new in April 2026. R5 #5 flagged this. Still unresolved. Add one line in ch 10: “She had raised this with Greta in October 2024 and been shut down. She had not raised it again.” This acknowledges the prior attempt.

2.12 Reema Iyer

No internal contradictions found. R5’s mention of the 5-character redaction is consistent with convocation §3.10 (“a five-character redaction”). The world bible should record what the underlying 4-char word was (the FOIA’s original) and what the 5-char modification says — even if only as private canon.

No contradictions. The chapter ends on the deliberate-hover stop-point. R5 #9 (the unopened email) is preserved.

2.14 Elin (polar researcher)

No contradictions. Story 08 / book ch 08 is consistent. R5 §3 confirmed the Bell-anomaly and Vostok-core geography. The 2025 austral summer dating in ch 08 is consistent (“on her fourth austral summer at Vostok”; codex Ch 3 footnote 2: “The 2025 hyperbola stack was a notification”).

Timeline-level contradictions:

# Issue Proposed fix
T-1 (CRITICAL) Eric’s cycle phase. Diary p3 (1993) names cycle dates “1965 — 1972 — 1979 — 1986 — 1993” (phase 1958+7n); Clear Air dates Oct 1991 procedure (not on that phase) and “last service 2019” (not on that phase either). Lock phase as 1956+7n (1956, 1963, 1970, 1977, 1984, 1991, 1998, 2005, 2012, 2019). Amend diary p3’s dates to “1963 — 1970 — 1977 — 1984 — 1991.” Amend diary p5’s “next is 2021” to “next is in 2019.” Amend Clear Air’s “peach stand age 16, summer 1962” to “summer 1963.” Eric born late 1946 / early 1947.
T-2 (CRITICAL) Pop death date. ch 17 says 2012; ch 15 says spring 2019. Change ch 15:24 “2019” to “2012”.
T-3 (CRITICAL) Pop’s negotiation date. Notebook dated July 14 1998 (Marisol age 11); ch 01 implies the negotiation occurred during the July 2003 visit when Marisol was 11. Re-date the notebook entry to 14 July 2003. (Pop’s notebook volume label should change from “Vol XVII · 1996–1998” to “Vol XXI · 2001–2003” or similar.)
T-4 (CRITICAL) Lorenzo’s notebook entry V references “the dying math teacher whose chaplaincy referral was discussed at convocation last winter” while writing in Oct 2019; the referral is filed Jan 14 2026. Re-phrase to remove the explicit forward-time reference; Lorenzo can suspect 6018 is the math teacher from the 1981 file alone, not from a future convocation. See L-1 fix.
T-5 (MINOR — RESOLVED) Wexler date. R5 #6 resolved: 26–27 Sep 1961 across all artifacts.
T-6 (MINOR — partially resolved) L. surname width drift. Resolved by ch 16 postscript: the wider 2019 redaction is “the apparatus’s tell.” World bible should record the gloss.

§5. Findings Summary

5.1 CRITICAL contradictions (must fix)

# Issue File:Line Proposed one-sentence fix
F-1 Pop’s death date book/chapters/15-technician.md:24 Change “the surface year that the substrate would call 2019, in the season the substrate calls spring” to “2012, in the season the substrate calls winter.”
F-2 Pop’s notebook negotiation date letters/03-pops-notebook-entry-1998.html:254 (and volume label :243) Re-date entry to 14 July 2003; re-label volume as “Vol XXI · 2001–2003.”
F-3 Lorenzo’s anachronistic reference to a 2026 convocation book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:140 (Entry V on Subject 6018) Strike “the dying math teacher whose chaplaincy referral was discussed at convocation last winter”; replace with “the boy whose file, by my reading of the 1981 referral, is the one I closed first-iteration in El Paso.”
F-4 Eric’s cycle phase letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:357 (diary p3 cycle list) and :445 (diary p5 next date) Change p3 to “1963 — 1970 — 1977 — 1984 — 1991”; change p5 “next is in 2021” to “next is in 2019.” Move Clear Air’s peach-stand to 1963 (book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:54).
F-5 Eric’s wife: name collision + death-date contradiction letters/02-hauschild-diary-pages.html:257 and :425 and book/chapters/02-clear-air.md:106 Rename Eric’s wife from “Helen” to “Lillian” in diary pages; change Clear Air “He had been a widower for nine years” to “for six years” (so Lillian dies ~late 2019, consistent with “spring of second diagnosis”).
F-6 Eric / Subject 6018 age mismatch book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md:138–142 Change “He was nine” to “He was thirty-five”; OR (preferred) preserve the 1981 cycle as Lorenzo’s only fact and remove the “the boy is, by my best reading… the dying math teacher” speculation entirely (the cosmology already allows the substrate-level recognition without making it explicit).
F-7 Subject 7142 identity collision artifacts/inbox/03-maintenance-schedule-update.md:51 AND :7142 references in 04 AND book/chapters/14-convocation.md:316 (§3.4 “registry entry 1994; cohort R-7”) Disambiguate: keep Marisol Marquez as Subject 7142 (slow cohort, 7-year interval, 4-cycle short tenure, registry entry 1998 not 1994); rename the inbox-03 subject to ████-7144 (R-7 cohort, 94-day interval, 41 yo female, different person). Update convocation §3.4 “registry entry 1994” → “1998” and “cohort R-7” → “slow cohort.”
F-8 Hollow World launch timeline book/chapters/10-inheritance.md:30 Add one phrase after “branding Hollow World”: “— a re-stand of the 2024 cell, which got burned over the summer.”
F-9 Veth-skenn vs Sshenn-vu attendance book/chapters/15-technician.md:18–24 Add one sentence making explicit that Sshenn-vu (now unbraiding) attended Lorenzo’s 1970 procedure AND Pop’s 1998-now-2003 porch negotiation; Veth-skenn (the current voice) took over Marisol’s file at her first procedure.
F-10 Pat Donohoe age book/chapters/13-chaplains-visit.md:64 (“He was sixty-four”) and convocation Roberts-margin “71 in March” Pat born 1942 (age 29 at 1971 Vasquez; age 83 in Dec 2025). Change ch 13 to “He was eighty-three”; change Roberts margin “71 in March” to “84 in March.”

5.2 MINOR contradictions (can defer)

# Issue File:Line Proposed fix

f-9 Atrahasis thread file uses rejected displacement framing artifacts/threads/02-atrahasis-as-postmortem.md:23,29 Strike “end-Permian retreat” and “first surface-operator class displaced”; replace with “the operator class’s surface-side experiment with an initial cultivator population.” The world bible explicitly rejects displacement; the thread predates the canon update.
f-10 Codex Ch 3 §I uses displacement framing codex/chapters/03-the-observers-above.md:12 (“when the surface became uninhabitable, the ones we are dealing with stayed”) Change to “when their relationship to the surface stabilized into the long study, the ones we are dealing with stayed.”
f-11 Codex Ch 3 §IV interlude uses displacement framing codex/chapters/03-the-observers-above.md:108–110 (“the Sumerian text dates the manufacture to within the operators’ surface-displacement event”) Strike “surface-displacement event”; replace with “the operators’ early-Holocene intervention.”
f-12 Putorana inbox advisory “252-Ma legacy” + “end-Permian” framing artifacts/inbox/01-putorana-survey-auth.md:50 Keep the bureaucratic phrasing (an apparatus document would use stigma-shield language); the in-universe document being wrong is OK. f-18 Atrahasis chapter (codex Ch 4 §The Sumerian thread) codex 1 §The Sumerian thread is consistent with canon; threads/02 is not See f-9.

5.3 Single most-cited source file

book/chapters/16-tonopah-notebook.md — implicated in F-3, F-4, F-6, F-9 (CRITICAL) and L-1/f-3 (MINOR). The Tonopah notebook is the corpus’s keystone artifact (it canonizes mechanisms — recruited-rememberer pipeline, Sshenn-vu identity, Marisol’s slow-cohort negotiation, the operator-caste plurality) and consequently is also the most-referenced artifact in the contradiction set. Most issues are anachronisms (Lorenzo writing in Oct 2019 about events in 2025/2026) that resolve cleanly with minor textual changes.

5.4 Character with most-violated statechart

Eric Hauschild. Five contradictions (E-1 through E-5, of which E-1/E-2/E-3/E-4 are critical). The diary’s cycle phase doesn’t match Clear Air’s 1991/2019 dates; the wife’s name collides with Helen Carlyle and the widowhood date is internally inconsistent; the wife’s death date conflicts; Lorenzo’s 1981 transfer puts Eric at age 9 when he was 35. Eric is the character through whom the most artifacts converge (Clear Air, the diary, the chaplain, the Tonopah notebook, the convocation Asheville-file discussion), so his statechart is the most-exercised.

5.5 The single recommended fix the user should approve first

F-1: Change Pop’s death date in book/chapters/15-technician.md:24 from “2019, in the season the substrate calls spring” to “2012, in the season the substrate calls winter.” This is a one-word edit. It carries through cleanly: chapter 17 establishes 2012 as Pop’s death; the Technician chapter is the only place in the corpus that says spring 2019. This is also R5’s prior #1 critical finding, still present; the longest-standing canon violation; and a single-character substitution unlocks the rest of Pop’s statechart without ripple effects.

After F-1, the next-priority fixes in dependency order: - F-2 (Pop’s 1998 notebook → 2003) — single date change; unlocks Marisol’s chronology - F-3 (Lorenzo’s anachronistic convocation reference) — single sentence cut - F-7 (Subject 7142 disambiguation) — three-line edit across inbox 03/04 and convocation §3.4
