Mount Adams is a stratovolcano in the southern Cascade Range, Yakima and Skamania Counties, Washington. Elevation 3,743 m, second only to Rainier among Washington peaks. Sacred to the Yakama and other Plateau peoples (Pahto in Sahaptin tradition). The mountain figures in the 24 June 1947 Kenneth Arnold sighting as the southern marker between which Arnold timed the nine objects' transit (Rainier the northern marker). On the eastern flank, near Trout Lake, Washington, James Gilliland operates the ECETI (Enlightened Contact with Extraterrestrial Intelligence) ranch, established in 1986; the property hosts annual gatherings that organize sky-watch events and has accumulated a substantial independent video corpus of unexplained aerial phenomena over the mountain.
