What's documented

Kecksburg is a small unincorporated community in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. On 9 December 1965 at approximately 4:47 PM Eastern, a luminous fireball was observed across at least six U.S. states and Ontario. Local residents reported an object had come to ground in woodland east of Kecksburg. U.S. Army personnel from a nearby installation (likely Oakdale Army Support Facility and possibly Wright-Patterson) reportedly cordoned the area within hours; an object was reportedly transported away by flatbed truck before midnight.
